‘Wicked: For Good’ Announced as Title for Sequel to Musical Fantasy Movie
Universal Pictures has unveiled the title for the second part of its musical fantasy movie Wicked, revealing that it will be called Wicked: For Good. The sequel, directed by Jon M. Chu, is set to hit theaters on November 21, 2025, as confirmed on the official Wicked X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday.
Starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, the film is an adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked, which is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel. The first film, which also saw Chu at the helm, was released globally in November and has grossed over Rs 525 million at the box office.
Wicked acts as both a prequel and a reimagining of the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz, based on L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Set in the Land of Oz before the events of Baum’s story, the film explores the friendship between Elphaba (Erivo), who eventually becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, and her classmate Galinda (Grande), who later becomes Glinda the Good.
The film also features Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero Tigelaar, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and Peter Dinklage as Dr. Dillamond.
