Sri Lankan Food Festival Delights Mumbai Diners
The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai collaborated with Courtyard by Marriott in Andheri, Mumbai, to organize a ten-day Sri Lankan Food Festival from April 19 to April 28, 2024.
The festival showcased authentic Sri Lankan cuisine prepared by Chef Chanaka Denuwan, specially flown in from Marriott, Weligama Bay. Diners were treated to a diverse array of Sri Lankan dishes, alongside a live Kottu station, which proved to be a crowd favorite throughout the week.
The opening ceremony featured traditional Sri Lankan dance performances organized by Marriott and was attended by Consul (Commercial) Shirani Ariyarathne, Mission staff, members of Sri Lankan Airlines, prominent food bloggers, and travel writers from Mumbai.
The venue was adorned with colorful traditional masks provided by the Consulate General and Sri Lankan Airlines. Standees promoting Sri Lankan tourism and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) were prominently displayed, with digital standees showcasing tourism promotions and Ceylon spice extracts videos at the Marriott lobby. A dedicated counter served Ceylon tea infused with Ceylon spice extract, courtesy of Ceylon Agbiz (Pvt) Ltd. Additionally, restaurant service staff were dressed in Batik sarees, shirts, and sarongs provided by the Consulate General, adding to the festive ambiance.
The closing ceremony, attended by the Consul General, Consul (Commercial), select Mission staff, and members of SriLankan Airlines, featured a raffle draw for guests. Two lucky winners received return air tickets for the Mumbai-Colombo-Mumbai sector, sponsored by SriLankan Airlines.
