Selena Gomez Joins Billionaire Club, Thanks to Rare Beauty’s Success

Selena Gomez, who first gained fame as a child star on Barney and the Disney Channel, has reached new heights as a billionaire. The 32-year-old actress and singer now boasts a net worth of $1.3 billion, according to Bloomberg, which added her to its billionaire index on Friday.

Gomez’s wealth primarily stems from her Rare Beauty makeup company, which she founded five years ago. Bloomberg estimates her stake in the brand is worth over $1 billion, making her one of the youngest self-made women on the list, alongside Taylor Swift and Rihanna.

Rare Beauty’s viral products, such as liquid blush and lip tint, have contributed to the company’s reported net sales of $400 million in the 12 months leading up to February. Beyond her beauty empire, Gomez has earned tens of millions from endorsements with brands like Louis Vuitton, Coach, and Puma.

Her on-screen success continues with her Emmy-nominated role in Hulu’s hit series Only Murders in the Building, for which she reportedly earns at least $6 million per season. The series was recently renewed for a fifth season.

Despite her achievements in acting and music—including multiple Emmy and Grammy nominations—these accomplishments account for a small fraction of her wealth, according to Bloomberg. Gomez, who has spent nearly three decades in the public eye, has also faced scrutiny over her personal life, including her fashion choices, relationships, and health challenges, such as bipolar disorder and lupus.

The Texas-born star has shared her family’s immigration story, starting with her aunt’s journey to the U.S. from Mexico “hidden in the back of a truck,” and has even recorded songs in Spanish. Last year, Gomez became the most followed woman on Instagram, amassing over 424 million followers—surpassing Taylor Swift and Kylie Jenner—despite her candid discussions about the platform’s negative impact on her mental health.

In a BBC1 interview nearly a decade ago, Gomez reflected on her career’s longevity, remarking, “It’s weird—it’s almost two decades… am I too old?” She joked, hinting that she still has more to accomplish. “You know what’s crazy, is that a lot of times I don’t even feel I’ve started,” she added.
