Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) researchers have unveiled an innovative AI chatbot aimed at engaging users in conversations with their future selves. The underlying concept of ‘Future You’ involves simulating an individual’s older self and drawing from synthetic memories to encourage users to consider their long-term aspirations. The development process of this chatbot comprises two primary components. Initially, users initiate conversations by providing personal information. Subsequently, they upload a portrait image, digitally aged to depict their future selves. ‘Future You’ utilizes this data to generate coherent responses, leveraging OpenAI’s GPT3.5 language model to facilitate meaningful exchanges. Through these interactions, the user’s newly generated persona can provide advice and reflect on their life, offering insights into the user’s potential future trajectory.

It encourages users to explore different futures by adjusting their responses to the questionnaire.
