iPhone 16 Pro Max Set to Dominate Sales in Apple’s 2024 Lineup, ‘Plus’ Variant Expected to Lag Behind
A new report suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be the most popular device in Apple’s 2024 lineup, as the company continues to shift its focus towards the ‘Pro’ models. Despite their higher price tags, both ‘Pro’ variants are expected to outperform the standard models in sales, thanks in part to Apple’s advanced features and new sizes.
According to The Elec, Apple is anticipating higher shipments of the iPhone 16 Pro models compared to the standard versions, which will also introduce several new features. Historically, the ‘Pro’ models have consistently outperformed their budget counterparts, and this year is expected to follow the same trend. Apple plans to produce a total of 90.1 million units of the iPhone 16 series, with the ‘Plus’ variant projected to be the least popular, accounting for just 5.8 million units.
The standard 6.1-inch iPhone 16 is expected to comprise 24.5 million units, while the smaller 6.3-inch iPhone 16 Pro will make up 26.5 million units of the total production. The iPhone 16 Pro Max is anticipated to dominate production with 33.2 million units, representing 37 percent of the total output. In contrast, the iPhone 16 Plus is expected to account for only 6 percent of the total share.
Overall, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are poised to be the most popular models in the lineup, making up 67 percent of the total production. This is an increase from last year when the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max constituted 60 percent of the lineup. The increased focus on the ‘Pro’ models is largely attributed to Apple’s production of tetraprism lenses for these devices.
The ‘Pro’ models will also feature the latest Apple Intelligence additions, although these new features may not be available at launch. Apple has released iOS 18.1 to developers for testing, with a potential public release in October, a few weeks after the iPhone 16’s official launch.
It’s worth noting that the iPhone 16 and ‘Pro’ models won’t see any radical design changes this year, leading to more generalized sales patterns over time. Apple is reportedly working on an ultra-thin version of the iPhone 17, slated for release next year with a higher price tag. How the market responds to the iPhone 16 lineup remains to be seen.
