New Harry Potter TV Series Set to Begin Production in Summer 2025

The much-anticipated Harry Potter TV series by HBO is slated to start production in the summer of 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire, the iconic location where all eight Harry Potter films were previously shot.

The decade-long series, described by Warner Bros’ streaming platform Max as “a faithful adaptation of the iconic books” by JK Rowling, will feature a brand-new cast. Following an open casting call in September 2024, HBO revealed that 32,000 children auditioned for the lead roles.

Max announced the production update on Thursday, posting to X: “Wands at the ready. The upcoming HBO Original Series, #HarryPotter, will be filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden with production beginning in Summer 2025 and coming to Max.”

The new series aims to introduce Harry Potter’s magical world to a new generation. Each of the seven planned seasons will adapt one of Rowling’s books, promising a detailed and authentic retelling of the beloved story.

Casting for the lead roles stipulated that applicants must be UK or Ireland residents aged between 9 and 11 as of April 2025. HBO confirmed that the casting team has reviewed up to 1,000 tapes per day from thousands of young hopefuls.

Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod, known for their work on the hit drama Succession, were previously confirmed as executive producers for the series.

Max initially announced the series in 2023, stating: “Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world.”

The cast of beloved characters—including Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger—will be revealed at a later date. Fans eagerly await further announcements as the Wizarding World gears up for a new chapter.
