Daniel Radcliffe Wins First Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe achieved a milestone in his career by winning his first Tony Award at Sunday’s ceremony in New York. Radcliffe was honored as the best actor in a musical for his role in the revival of Stephan Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along.

The play also received three additional awards during the event, which celebrates Broadway’s finest achievements.

During his acceptance speech, the 34-year-old actor wished his father a happy Father’s Day and expressed gratitude to his girlfriend Erin Darke, saying, “My love Erin, you and our son are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I love you so much, thank you so much.”

Radcliffe also credited his parents for playing Sondheim’s music in the car, emphasizing that the play was “one of the best experiences of my life.”

Jonathan Groff also secured his first Tony Award for his role in the musical, praising his co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Lindsay Mendez as “more than old friends,” calling them “soulmates.”

Meanwhile, Angelina Jolie earned her first Tony Award for producing The Outsiders, which was named best musical and received three other awards after garnering 12 nominations. The 49-year-old actress was joined on stage by her daughter Vivienne, 15.

The ceremony also honored theatre veterans and newcomers alike, showcasing a diverse array of talent and performances that underscored the richness of Broadway’s offerings.
