BIA Records Sharp Increase, Serving 850,000 Travelers This Year

Chairman of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd., Athula Galkatiya, has noted a significant surge in the arrival of travelers, attributing it to President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s economic initiatives and the peaceful environment cultivated within the country. As a result, Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake has witnessed a notable uptick in air passenger traffic.

According to the Chairman, between January 1st and March 19th, 2024, BIA has catered to a total of 850,000 air passengers.

Mr. Galkatiya anticipates that approximately 10 million passengers will have utilized the airport by the end of this year.

He further highlighted that in 2022, the total number of passengers using Bandaranaike International Airport Katunayake was 5 million, with a projected increase to 8 million in 2023. Source – bizenglish.adaderana.lk
