UN FAO Director General Commends President Wickremesinghe’s Leadership Amid Economic Challenges
Dr. Qu Dongyu, the Director General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), paid a courtesy visit to President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Presidential Secretariat this afternoon (19), acknowledging and praising the President’s leadership amidst Sri Lanka’s economic challenges.
During the meeting, Dr. Dongyu extended congratulations to President Wickremesinghe for his dedicated efforts in steering Sri Lanka through the recent economic crisis and subsequent reforms. He assured the President of the FAO’s steadfast support for both the government and the people of Sri Lanka during these critical times.
In response, President Wickremesinghe provided an overview of the progress achieved in the country’s ongoing recovery efforts. Emphasizing the importance of introducing an agriculture modernization project to enhance productivity and sustainability in the sector, the President sought the FAO’s collaboration and assistance in implementing this initiative. He underscored the pivotal role of agriculture in Sri Lanka’s economic development.

Accompanying the President were key officials, including the Secretary to the President, Mr. Saman Ekanayake, and the Director of International Affairs, Mr. Dinouk Colombage
